REGULAR MANIFEST PROGRAMS:  Summer 2010

Manifest, a non-profit men’s wellness community, empowers men to pursue their wellness visions & passions together in more than 60 events monthly (listed below).  Please check our web calendar for the latest schedule of our programs.  Or click on the name of any program below you’re interested in for more information or to register for that program..

MONDAYS

CORE YOGA:  increase strength & flexibility at your core; reduce stress & increase joy with a fun whole-body workout.  Mondays weekly, 6:15-7:30 pm, Instructor Charles Airey, Kripalu teacher for more than 20 years.  Manifest NE Studio

MORNING YOGA & MEDITATION:  learn to establish a daily practice to increase energy & focus, de-crease depression & pain, & feel better; Mon-Fri, 6:30-7:00 am Breath & Meditation 7-8:30 am Yoga (asana), Instructor Bart Church, has studied yoga for 25 years & been an Raja & Iyengar-trained Yoga teacher for more than 16 years. Manifest Studio.

QI GONG: Gentle movement, breathwork, visualization and meditation for bringing balance and health to the body, mind, and spirit.  Mondays weekly, 7 :00- 8:30pm.  Led by Ryan Powell, who has practiced QiGong for 13 years & taught for 5 years.  Cloud Moss Temple (nr NE 16th & Alberta).

GIVE A GREAT MASSAGE CLASS:  In this 5 week course you’ll learn practical techniques for giving & receiving a full-body massage.  Learn to give & receive simple techniques for a different body region each week.  While we recommend attending all the classes, you can attend any that work in your schedule. Mondays weekly (starts 7/12), 7:45-9:15 pm. Charles Grey,  Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT 15144) & Licensed Acupuncturist. Manifest NE Studio.

TUESDAYS

NAKED YOGA:  learn to honor & strengthen your body as a vessel of sacred energy by practicing simple yoga stretches with other men.  Explore creating comfort within yourself and with others to feel that energy.  Tuesdays, weekly (starts 7/6), 6:15-7:30 pm. This class will be for men of all skill levels, orientations, & body types, and will be a safe, fun space for affirming our bodies as beautiful.  Taught by Charles Airey, who has been teaching Kripalu Yoga for more then 20 years. Manifest NE Studio. 

MEN’S MEDITATION GROUP:MEN’S MEDITATION GROUP: Great for stress relief and increasing your ability to be calm and focused; simple, silent seated & walking meditation, short inspirational reading, discussion, tea, and cookies; Tuesdays weekly, 7:00-9:00 pm. Co-Facilitators:  Michael Zula & Vincent Ferguson, who are long-time meditators. Digital Mandala Studio (Laurelhurst).

WEDNESDAYS

THERAPEUTIC YOGA:  use yoga to address your wellness goals & challenges like backpain, depression, insomnia, weightloss, etc.; Wednesdays weekly, 6:15-8:15 pm; Instructor Bart Church has studied Iyengar & Raja Yoga more than 25 years and has taught therapeutic yoga for more than 16 years.  Manifest NE Studio.

PASSIONATE PARTNERSHIPS: discover what brings you and others alive in partnerships and skills you can use to create & sustain authentic passion in all your relationships (e.g., friendships, love & lust relationships, and even business relationships).  Wednesdays weekly, starting May 26th. 6:30-8:30 pm.  See & call forth the best in yourself & others, and how to let go of negative judgments & stories that cut you off from yourself & others.  This group is for both single and coupled men.  Facilitated by Marc Andrews, LCSW, licensed psychotherapist, with 20 years of group and individual counseling experience. Park 19 Bldg (nr. NW 19th & Hoyt).

TRINITY 8 MEDITATION GROUP FOR CHRONIC ILLNESS:  Tap into the quantum field & ever-changing vibration of deep healing with meditation & advanced algorithmic sound technology.  Notice & let go of fundamental, negative beliefs.  Wednesdays weeky, 6:30-8:00pm.  Presented by Dr. Malcolm Smith, a Naturopathic & Homeopathic Physician for 14 years, & facilitated by Issa OneMore, a long-time meditation practitioner.  LifePrint Homeopathy Office (nr NE Broadway & 29th). 

BEGIN WITHIN:  CENTERING PRAYER AND MEDITATION GROUP engages in simple, powerful nondenominational meditation and prayer that veers from Buddhism through Christianity and into secularist poetry and readings, to help you stay connected to your source; Wednesdays weekly, 3:30-4:30 pm; Co-Facilitated by Palmer Pardington, M.Div, Michael Zula, & Kelly Laslie.  House near Reed College.

THURSDAYS

LAST THURSDAY BARBECUE, MUSIC & POETRY:  This summer we’ll grill your favorite foods, listen to great local musicians, and read some great poetry, & raise money for Manifest & its Diversity Outreach Program.  Last Thursdays, 6:00-8:00 pm.  This is a great homebase for strolling the Alberta Art District’s famous Last Thursday art & music festival.  Manifest NE Studio.

YOGA BASICS:  learn Hatha & Vinyasa fundamentals (stretches, breath practices, & practical principles) to reduce stress & tension, increase energy & focus, and return to the vibrant flow of your life.  Thursdays weekly, 6:15-7:30 pm. Instructor Bryan Rollins has been teaching adults & children yoga fundamentals for two years & seeks to create an intergenerational class. Manifest NE Studio.

VINI & YIN YOGA:  This special beginner’s class is for active men (athletes, musicians, massage therapists, dancers, carpenters, etc.) who suffer tightness or pain due to overuse or misuse.  Thursdays weekly (begins 7/15), 7:45-9:00 PM. Vini Yoga is a science-based technique that tailors movement to your individual challenges & abilities.  Yin Yoga teaches strength, compassion & patience througth the gentle holding of poses in relation to the breath.  Taught by Brian Miller, a Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Yoga Instructor, & .  Manifest NE Studio. 

SATURDAYS

COOKING WELL CLASS:  In this fun, learn-by-doing 6-week class, Rainbow Vista’s Head Chef Todd Carey teaches you how to prepare simple, fast, healthy, inexpensive & delicious meals.  You’ll learn practical nutrition, where to find great, inexpensive ingredients, how to prepare them fast, & how to make healthy, really tasty meals for yourself & friends.  Saturdays weekly (begins 7/10), 10:00 am – 12 noonish.  Manifest NE Studio. 
 
WALKING GROUP: learn about the history, architecture, plants, restaurants, & parks of Portland’s many interesting neighborhoods, while getting easy exercise and having great conversations with interesting men.  Saturdays weekly, 10:30 am – 12 noonish.  Facilitated by Rick Stenquist.  Meet at Lloyd Center Max (NE 11th & Holladay).
 
GARDENING & FOOD SUSTAINABILITY TEAM:  Learn practical skills & tips from some of the best master gardeners in the Portland area; meet & share information with a diverse group of beginning & experienced gardeners, and reinforce what you’ve learned by practicing in the Manifest Teaching Garden, your garden, or the gardens of other participants. 
2nd & 4th Saturdays, 10:00 am-12:30 pm.  Facilitated by Bryan Rollins & various master gardener instructors. Manifest Learning Garden & other gardens.

WANDERLUST CYCLING GROUP:  have fun exploring Portland by bike in this easy ride that usually ends with (optional) group lunch; Saturdays weekly, 10:30 am-12:00 ish.  Co-Facilitators: David Zundel, a long-time urban cyclist; Bart Church.  Meet at Mio Gelato (NE 15th & Brazee St.)

SUNDAYS

ECO-HIKES:  explore beautiful, diverse eco-systems within 60-80 miles of Portland in these relatively easy hikes; these hikes are more about taking our time to really connect with nature & other men who love nature. 2nd & 4th Sundays 10am. Facilitated by Bart Church, a long-time hike leader in the Northwest, & various visiting naturalists. Various locations.

MEN’S SALON:  Thoughtful speakers give a brief, engaging presentation on a different interesting question each month, and then the group answers that question through collective inquiry & discussion; anyone may speak from his own experience & values; the goal is for the group to have fun learning from its collaborative inquiry & to develop intergenerational friendships & community. 1st Sunday monthly, 2:30-4:30 pm.  Facilitated by Eric Bagai and David Zundel and various guest presenters.  Various private homes.

WORK & ABUNDANCE GROUP:  Get powerful, practical support each week for clarifying and moving toward your vision of fulfilling work that brings you abundance.  6 Sundays weekly (begins 7/18; no class 8/1), 7:00-8:30 pm.  Create a concrete action plan & team; learn to change your core story and communicate your vision effectively.  Facilitator Jesse Johnson, has a Masters in Counseling and a passion for combining his personal coaching & counseling skills to empower men to embody their potential.
